The four strokes

FeelingStroke
JoyDraw upward, one rising stroke
SorrowSweep down, slow and long
AngerFlick once, sharp and short — direction does not matter
FearCurl inward, starting from the dot and spiralling to the centre

Forgotten them? Press and hold the canvas to see all four again.

How hard and how fast you draw sets how strongly the feeling reads. The shape says which feeling; the vigour says how much.

It read my stroke wrong

Tap the other option when it offers you a choice, and it will record what you meant instead. If it read confidently but wrongly, draw again — the correction is recorded either way, and the app gradually adapts to how you personally draw.

If a particular stroke is consistently misread, the fastest fix is to make it more distinct: a longer rising line for joy, a slower sweep for sorrow, a shorter and faster flick for anger, more turns for fear.

I would rather not draw

Settings → Logging → Choose. Four buttons and an intensity slider, recording exactly the same thing. It is offered automatically if VoiceOver, Switch Control, or AssistiveTouch is running.

Moving around

Why only four entries a day?

A day is one screen wide, and four is what fits across it while leaving each one distinct enough to find and tap. Beyond four the app still accepts the stroke — it simply does not grow anything new.

Nothing withers if I stop using it

Correct. Nothing decays, there are no streaks, and a day you skipped is just a clearing in the landscape. Coming back after a gap is the only thing the app treats as notable, and it treats it kindly.

Keeping a copy

Settings → Your data → Export a copy. This writes a file containing everything you have logged; where it goes is up to you.

Your entries are also included in your iPhone's ordinary encrypted backup. The one case a backup does not cover is deleting the app, which removes its data immediately — so if you are about to delete it and want your history, export first.

Settings → Your data → Restore from a file merges an exported file back in. Importing the same file twice changes nothing, so it is safe to try.

Privacy

Nothing you log leaves your phone. There is no account, no analytics, and no networking code in the app at all. Full detail is in the privacy policy.

If you are struggling

Settings always lists crisis support services for your region, and they work with no internet connection. They are there permanently — the app never decides you need them, and never will.
